Domestic violence victims in New Jersey watch McDonald's new case

Ray McDonald has been released from the Chicago Bears after another domestic violence charge. The release happened just 62 days after McDonald signed with the Bears. Although this act of domestic violence did not happen in New Jersey, the state's residents who are fans of the NFL may be interested in the outcome.

The Bears had provided McDonald with a second chance following an arrest last year for domestic violence. This time, however, he has also been charged with child endangerment, and reports say that there are allegedly other cases of domestic violence for which he has not been charged. The victim in this case, McDonald's ex-fiancé, was allegedly holding his baby when she was physically attacked.

Police arrived at the residence to find that McDonald had left to stay with a friend. They located and arrested him about an hour later in a nearby town. The condition of the woman and her baby was not reported.

McDonald posted bail in the amount of $15,000 and was released. His mother said that when he is in California he often visits his son who was born to his ex-fiancé in March. She did not know anything about the arrest and stated that she did not want to deal with these accusations anymore.

Although the Bears have released Ray McDonald from his contract with the team, the former 49er has not had his day in court. Victims of domestic violence are often leery of pressing charges due to the fear of retaliation from the abuser. New Jersey victims may wish to speak to attorneys who can help them to obtain protective orders to ensure their safety.
