Divorce finalized for "Dog Whisperer"

New Jersey fans of "The Dog Whisperer" may be interested to know that the divorce battle between Cesar Millan and his ex-wife has come to an end. After a nearly two-year struggle, they both were able to recently come to an agreement. It outlines many of the central issues of the divorce, including alimony and child support payments.

In many divorces, the richer spouse may be required to pay the poorer spouse a monthly income called alimony. This can continue for a few years after the divorce, and some states, including New Jersey, even allow for lifetime alimony payments. In this case, Millan has agreed to pay his ex-wife $23,000 a month in alimony.

That amount is an addition to a one-time lump-sum payment of $400,000 in return for media silence about the divorce, and divorce documents seem to hint that could extend to allegations of infidelities. He will also be required to pay $10,000 a month in child support on behalf of the two boys that Millan and his ex-wife share. Before the divorce was announced in June 2010, the two had been married for 18 years.

Divorce often involves a number of complicated issues, and no doubt the above information that was gleaned from divorce documents only covers a portion of everything that was involved. Often times, the most contentious issue when there are children is the matter of child custody, although there can also be significant friction regarding the division of marital assets. In determining these matters, New Jersey spouses going through a divorce may well benefit from the assistance of a qualified legal professional.
