Lisa Marie Presley's child custody battle could get ugly

When reading about the ups and downs in the lives of celebrities, it becomes apparent that they fight the same battles as many ordinary New Jersey residents. Divorce filings follow infidelity, financial arguments and addictions or dependency on alcohol or drugs. Sadly, whenever there are children involved, child custody battles may ensue in which the children are usually the ones suffering the most.

One such a current battle is that of Lisa Marie Presley and her ex-husband, Michael Lockwood. The parents are fighting a bitter battle for custody of their 7-year-old twin daughters. Presley filed for divorce in June and cited irreconcilable differences; however, it is reported that she is accusing Lockwood of spending substantial amounts of her money without her consent.

In turn, Lockwood is using Presley's alleged addiction issues against her. He is apparently utilizing this failing to favor his motion for full custody of the twins. He claims that the children are mostly in the care of their nannies and Priscilla Presley, their maternal grandmother. He aims to win the battle and obtain alimony and child support to care for himself and the kids.

Sadly, while it is the goal of family courts to do what is best for the children, divorcing parents sometimes lose sight of the fact that their child custody battles can scar their children for life. New Jersey parents who are considering divorce may benefit from consulting with an experienced family law attorney. From a lawyer, they can learn about the available options to navigate divorces while -- hopefully -- not causing irreparable harm to any of the parties involved.
