Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale divorce without acrimony

Most celebrity break-ups are highly publicized and typically full of contention. New Jersey residents may be surprised to learn that Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are reportedly keeping their divorce amicable. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, amicable is "showing a polite and friendly desire to avoid disagreement and argument," and this is apparently what they achieved. The couple said in a statement that the end of their marriage will not stop them both from being responsible and committed parents to their three boys ages 9, 6 and 17 months.

Although Gwen Stefani was reportedly unhappy about the amount of time Gavin Rossdale spent on tours, he claimed that she also spent a significant amount of time on tour. Reports indicate that the couple, who got married in 2002, did so without signing a prenuptial agreement. It is said that Gwen is worth about $80 million and Gavin only $35 million; however, it was agreed that Gwen will not pay Gavin any spousal support.

As they are residents of a community property state, the law dictates that each spouse will be entitled to half of the community property. The details of the agreement reached and the manner in which their assets will be divided is unknown, but both parties are reported to be satisfied with the divorce agreement. The manner in which these celebrity parents approached their divorce is certainly in the best interests of the children.

New Jersey people who are considering a divorce may find encouragement in the amicable way in which this high-profile couple managed divorce. While some couples can reach mutual agreements on their own, others may need the help of qualified divorce mediators. To ensure the rights of each spouse are protected during mediation, and that nothing is overlooked, each party's legal counsel should be present during mediation.
