Doctor charged for domestic violence against girlfriend

It is hard to know what leads a seemingly normal and successful individual to violent actions, especially toward someone with whom he or she is in a relationship. New Jersey residents may be interested in a recent physical domestic violence situation that occurred between a doctor and his girlfriend while a child was present in the home. Unfortunately, this kind of situation can happen to anyone.

A man in another state has been indicted for domestic violence charges. His girlfriend reported to police that they were arguing and claimed he used violence against her by pinning her against a wall and choking her. The woman claims that her boyfriend then got a knife and threatened to kill her, and he then put the knife in her hand, demanding that she kill him.

According to the police, an 11-year-old child was in the home when this altercation occurred and was witness to the man pushing his girlfriend against the wall. The man is a surgeon at a cardiac center and has no past criminal record, although he has been arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants. He was arrested for the domestic violence on Aug. 20.

Victims of domestic violence have the right to protect themselves from their abusers. Although many seek a restraining order as the first step in protection, it is important to understand that domestic violence does not have to be strictly physical, as emotional distress can be just as traumatic. New Jersey residents who are victims of domestic violence may benefit from speaking with an experienced attorney to learn more about their options.
