New Jersey sweep brings arrests for child support warrants

A New Jersey man who apparently owed back child support has been arrested. At the time of his arrest, he is said to have owed in excess of $145,000 for overdue child support obligations. The 53-year-old man also had two other warrants at the time that he was apprehended and incarcerated.

The man was taken to Mannington Township and transported to the Salem County Correctional Facility. His arrest was part of a warrant sweep by the Salem County Sheriff's Office. During the sweep, the office managed to clear 93 warrants for child support that involved 67 people. From that group of people, the Sheriff's Office collected $10,811 that was owed for back child support.

Also arrested, on child support warrants, was a 30-year-old man who owed $4,830, a 48-year-old man who owed nearly $55,000 and a 36-year-old man who owed in excess of $19,000. Others were also arrested in the sweep. Most of the arrests were based upon municipal court warrants.

Officers in this sweep were able to arrest several people with warrants for failure to pay child support as well as collect some of the much needed money on behalf of custodial parents. A New Jersey resident who is struggling due to the non-receipt of court-ordered child support payments may wish to speak to an attorney who can help to pursue collection efforts against the responsible party. Also, an individual who has been ordered to pay child support but has suffered a substantial change in circumstances may seek professional assistance to file for a formal child support modification.
